The founder and owner of Pioneer Log Homes of B.C. and a star of HGTV Canada’s Timber Kings, Bryan Reid Sr., has set a Guinness World Record for “fastest motorized log.” Known as the “Cedar Rocket,” the motorized log car is powered by twin 20-horsepower electric turbines and on paper can go about 140 mph. For its record on the quarter mile however, it maxed out at 90 mph. The record was set at the quarter-mile track at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona.
The log car sits on a Mazda RX-8 frame and features independent suspension and disc brakes. To give it an extra boost of power, there’s a differential driven by a 35-hp direct-drive electric motor. In total, the log car weighs 2,200 pounds with nearly a quarter of that weight coming from batteries.

The body of the car was chiseled and chainsawed from a 240-year-old Western red cedar from the Bella Bella area before log-finishing specialist Chris Franklin gave it a special coat in California. Reid plans to tour it around North America this summer before bringing it home for the Williams Lake Stampede in June. It will then head to a Barrett-Jackson auction next year with its proceeds donated to veterans’ charities.
